Messorem's Year 6 celebration is an intense Double IPA that serves as a focused study of a single variety through multiple expressions. Utilizing Citra, Citra Hyperboost, and Citra Dynaboost, the beer delivers an explosive sensory profile of pink grapefruit, ripe mango, and passion fruit. The malt presence is intentionally lean and neutral, allowing the concentrated hop oils to provide a resinous, dank depth without interference. Despite its 8% ABV, the beer maintains high drinkability with a firm bitterness that cuts through the juicy fruit character. It finishes dry and clean, leaving a lingering impression of citrus zest and tropical sweetness on the palate.
Appearance.Deep gold to light orange (7-9 SRM). Features a thick, persistent, creamy white head with excellent lacing. While the style allows for clarity, this modern iteration presents with a significant, uniform haze.
Aroma.Intense hop aroma with high complexity. Dominant notes of lime peel, tangerine, and lychee from the Citra, Citra Hyperboost, and Citra Dynaboost additions. Very low, neutral, crackery malt in the background with a clean fermentation profile free of esters.
Taste.Initial impression is a saturated burst of tropical fruit and citrus oils. Strong hop flavors of grapefruit and melon are supported by a soft, bready malt backbone. Bitterness is firm and assertive, consistent with a high IBU range, but remains smooth and free of harshness. The finish is dry and crisp with a long, resinous aftertaste.
Mouthfeel.Medium body with a soft, somewhat creamy texture. Carbonation is moderate to medium-high. A light, smooth alcohol warmth is present but well-integrated. No hop-derived astringency is perceived.
