Menaud Genévrier is a complex Saison inspired by ancient brewing traditions, showcasing a unique filtration over juniper branches. This method imparts a rustic, resinous depth that anchors the sensory experience. On the nose and palate, a bold interplay of banana esters and spicy clove phenols emerges, reminiscent of classic Belgian fermentation. The integration of botanicals from the brewery’s Gin Maria introduces delicate herbal and piney nuances, blending seamlessly with the grainy malt base. Distinctively served with minimal effervescence, this medium-bodied ale offers a smooth, still-like texture that highlights its botanical complexity and dry, botanical finish.
Appearance. Color ranges from pale gold to light amber (6-10 SRM). Appearance is characterized by low to no head retention due to the traditionally still presentation; clarity is slightly hazy with occasional botanical sediment.
Aroma. High intensity. Dominant banana esters and spicy clove phenols are immediately apparent. Distinctive earthy and resinous juniper notes are prominent, complemented by a complex herbal and floral mix of gin botanicals. Malt character is low and grainy.
Taste. Initial impression is very dry and herbal. Prominent flavors of juniper berries and resin meld with a rustic, grainy malt backbone. Banana and clove yeast character provides a traditional farmhouse core. Bitterness is moderate but feels firm due to the resinous botanicals. The finish is exceptionally dry and lingering with a spicy aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium body with a unique, nearly still carbonation level that defies typical style expectations. The texture is smooth and creamy rather than effervescent. Light alcohol warmth is present, with very low astringency from the juniper filtration.
