Meiga Samaín
9 Ratings
Crafted for the winter Samaín celebration, this Belgian Golden Strong Ale undergoes a triple fermentation to reach a potent 10% ABV. It presents a vibrant golden hue with a deceptively light body and high, sparkling carbonation. A complex bouquet of pome fruit esters, notably pear, melds with herbal hop notes and soft, peppery alcohol phenols. Despite its strength, the Pilsner malt base remains nearly neutral, allowing the fruity yeast character to shine. The experience concludes with a long, bone-dry finish and a smooth, integrated warmth, making it an ideal companion for the chilly rains of November and aged cheeses.
Appearance. Deep gold color (around 6 SRM) with a slight, hazy sheen. It supports a massive, long-lasting, rocky white head that leaves dense, characteristic Belgian lacing on the glass as it recedes.
Aroma. High intensity aroma defined by prominent pear and apple esters. These are layered over herbal and floral hop notes with a distinct peppery phenolic quality. The malt provides a faint, grainy-sweet backdrop alongside clean, perfumy alcohol.
Taste. The palate leads with fruity pear esters and a soft, grainy pilsner malt sweetness. Mid-palate introduces herbal hops and a moderate peppery spice from the yeast and alcohol. It possesses a firm bitterness that, combined with the high effervescence, leads into a long, exceptionally dry, and warming aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Deceptively light body for its gravity. Very high carbonation creates a prickly, effervescent sensation on the tongue. Noticeable but smooth alcohol warmth is present, remaining well-integrated and devoid of harsh solvent notes.
