Medina Miotal presents as a quintessential Dark Mild, punching well above its weight for a session-strength ale. This anniversary release leads with a striking aromatic intensity of roasted malts, evoking notes of dark chocolate and freshly ground coffee. The palate is surprisingly robust, weaving together a bready base with layers of toffee, toasted nuts, and subtle dark fruit esters like plum. Despite its 3% ABV, it maintains a creamy, substantial mouthfeel that avoids the thinness often associated with low-gravity beers. It finishes with a clean, light roast dryness, making it an exceptionally drinkable yet flavor-forward tribute to traditional British brewing craftsmanship.
Appearance. Deep mahogany to near-black (SRM 22-25) with high clarity. It is topped by a creamy, tan-colored head with moderate retention and delicate lacing.
Aroma. Moderate to high intensity featuring prominent roasted malts, cold-brew coffee, and cocoa. Subtle background notes of caramel and toasted bread are complemented by very low floral hop notes and a faint hint of dark stone fruit esters.
Taste. Richly malty with an initial impression of toasted grains and sweet caramel. Mid-palate flavors evolve into unsweetened chocolate and light coffee roast. Hop bitterness is low but sufficient to balance the malt sweetness, leading to a smooth, slightly dry finish with lingering notes of roasted nuts and dark crusty bread.
Mouthfeel. Medium-light body that feels surprisingly full and velvety for its low gravity. Carbonation is low to moderate, providing a soft texture on the tongue without any alcohol warmth or harsh astringency.
