This Mango Sour Candy Braggot offers a vibrant, sensory-rich experience that bridges the gap between mead and sour ale. The aroma is dominated by high-intensity notes of ripe, succulent mango and mango candy, underpinned by a floral wildflower honey profile. On the palate, a lush honey sweetness is immediately met by a sharp, sour patch lactic acidity, creating a playful sweet-and-tangy dynamic. The mango character transitions from fresh fruit to a concentrated gummy candy finish. Despite its 8% ABV, the alcohol remains well-integrated, providing a gentle warmth that complements the medium-full, honey-driven body. It is a bold, modern interpretation of a Specialty Braggot.
Appearance. Deep gold to pale orange (7-10 SRM) with a persistent hazy appearance from mango fruit solids. The off-white head is thin with moderate lacing, though retention is slightly inhibited by high acidity.
Aroma. High intensity with a punch of tropical mango nectar and bright mango candy. Prominent floral honey notes provide a rich aromatic base, complemented by a clean, sharp citric and lactic tartness without any hop character.
Taste. Initial honey-like sweetness is quickly balanced by a firm, puckering sourness reminiscent of sour candy. Deep mango flavors are pervasive, ranging from fresh fruit puree to zesty fruit leather. Negligible hop bitterness (near 0 IBU) allows the fruit and acidity to lead. The finish is lingering, sweet-tart, and intensely fruity.
Mouthfeel. Medium-full body with a thick, almost nectar-like texture from the honey content. Carbonation is moderate, providing enough lift to offset the density. A noticeable but smooth alcohol warmth lingers on the swallow.
