This New Zealand-influenced American IPA presents an evocative sensory journey. It showcases a trio of quintessential New Zealand hops: Nelson Sauvin, Riwaka, and Motueka. The nose is greeted by an intense burst of tropical fruit—passionfruit and lime—juxtaposed against a lush, resinous, green backdrop. On the palate, the hop-forward profile delivers sharp citrus and crushed white grape notes, underpinned by a lean, grainy malt presence. A firm, clean bitterness defines the experience, leading to a crisp, dry finish that maintains its majestic, resinous character. It is a bold, hop-focused tribute to the native forests of Aotearoa.
Appearance. Deep gold (8 SRM) with brilliant clarity. Pours with a medium-sized, persistent off-white head that leaves dense, sticky lacing on the glass.
Aroma. High intensity hop aroma featuring prominent tropical fruit, passionfruit, and lime zest. A distinct crushed grape and gooseberry note is present alongside a resinous, dank, and piney green character. Clean, low-intensity grainy malt supports the aromatics with no significant esters.
Taste. Initial impression is decidedly hop-forward and fruity. Medium-high hop flavors of lime, tropical fruit, and resinous pine dominate. The malt flavor is low, providing a clean, crackery foundation. Bitterness is firm and high, remaining clean and well-integrated. The finish is dry with a lingering hop-derived bitterness and a hint of citrus pith.
Mouthfeel. Medium body with a smooth, slightly resinous texture. Carbonation is medium-high, providing a crisp bite. A light, smooth alcohol warmth is present, commensurate with the strength, but without any harshness or astringency.
