McLeod’s Billycan is an indulgent Sweet Stout that pours with the depth of a moonless night. This brew delivers an aromatic bouquet of rich roasted malts, underscored by sophisticated layers of dark chocolate and fresh espresso. On the palate, a velvety, luxuriant mouthfeel carries complex notes of black liquorice and a hint of spiced rum, softened by a delicate vanilla sweetness. While the roast remains primary, it is beautifully rounded by the addition of lactose, providing a cream-and-coffee impression. Appearance. Jet black (35-40 SRM) and opaque. Topped with a dense, creamy off-white head with excellent persistence and moderate lacing.
Aroma. Moderate to high intensity featuring prominent roasted grain, bittersweet chocolate, and dark roast coffee. Subtle notes of vanilla and earthy liquorice are present, with a low fruity ester profile reminiscent of dark rum.
Taste. Initial impression is creamy and sweet, followed by deep chocolate and coffee malt flavors. Mid-palate introduces hints of liquorice and vanilla.
