This vibrant American IPA showcases the intensity of New Zealand's hop landscape through the use of Nelson, Pacifica, and Riwaka hops. The sensory experience is dominated by a punchy, green aromatic profile featuring crushed gooseberry, passionfruit, and bright citrus zest. A sturdy, bready malt foundation provides necessary structure without overshadowing the lupulin-forward focus. As the palate transitions from tropical fruit to a firm, crisp bitterness, the finish remains dry and exceptionally clean. This beer captures a modern New Zealand interpretation of the style, balancing high-impact hop oils with a refined, drinkable backbone and sophisticated malt support.
Appearance. Deep gold to pale amber (7-9 SRM). Brilliant clarity with a tall, dense white head that exhibits excellent persistence and intricate lacing.
Aroma. High intensity. Punchy notes of white grape and gooseberry from Nelson hops, accompanied by the orange marmalade tones of Pacifica and the pungent, diesel-tinged grapefruit and passionfruit of Riwaka. Low bready malt aroma provides a clean, neutral background.
Taste. High hop flavor mirrors the aroma with layers of tropical fruit, lime zest, and a distinctive green herbaceousness. A low to medium-low bready malt flavor supports the hop load. Medium-high bitterness is clean and assertive, leading to a dry, crisp finish with a lingering resinous aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium body with a smooth, slightly oily texture from the hop extracts. Moderate to high carbonation. A very light, well-integrated alcohol warmth is present, consistent with its 6.8% strength.
