This Double IPA, a collaboration between Mason Ale Works and Mumford Brewing, presents a powerful sensory experience driven by distinct New Zealand hops. Riwaka and Motueka define the profile, offering intense layers of passion fruit, zesty lime, and pink grapefruit over a soft, hazy golden body. The aroma is saturated with tropical fruit and subtle citrus oil, while the palate delivers a firm but integrated bitterness. At 9% ABV, a smooth alcohol warmth supports a plush mouthfeel, leading to a lingering, resinous finish that remains remarkably drinkable despite its notable strength and hop saturation.
Appearance. Deep gold to light orange color (SRM 6-8). Opaque with a significant haze. Features a moderate-sized, persistent, off-white head with excellent lacing.
Aroma. High intensity hop aroma featuring prominent passion fruit, grapefruit, and dank tropical notes from Riwaka, complemented by the fresh lime and citrus zest of Motueka. Supportive, neutral, grainy maltiness is subtle in the background. Clean fermentation profile with a very light, smooth alcohol note.
Taste. Strong, complex hop flavors dominated by crushed lime, tropical guava, and grapefruit. Malt flavor is low and clean, providing a soft, unobtrusive base. Bitterness is firm and moderately high but lacks harshness. Finish is medium-dry with a lingering hoppy aftertaste and a touch of citrus oil resin.
Mouthfeel. Medium-full body with a smooth, creamy texture. Carbonation is moderate. Displays a restrained, smooth alcohol warmth consistent with its 9% strength without any harsh astringency.
