The influence of New Riff Malted Rye Whiskey barrels introduces a spicy grain character and charred oak, while the Laird's Apple Brandy barrels contribute subtle pomme fruit nuances and a vinous complexity. On the palate, fresh roasted coffee beans provide a robust, roasted counterpoint to the velvety, dessert-like sweetness. At 14.5% ABV, a smooth, spirituous warmth integrates seamlessly into the dense, viscous body. The finish is long and elegant, lingering with notes of dark chocolate and oak-driven tannins.
Appearance. Jet black and opaque (40+ SRM) with a thick, deep tan head. High viscosity is evident through persistent legs on the glass, while head retention is moderate due to the high alcohol content.
Aroma. High intensity with dominant notes of creamy vanilla and bittersweet chocolate fudge. Deep roasted coffee bean aromatics meld with spicy rye whiskey and faint apple skin. Moderate esters of prune and raisin are supported by a clean, spirituous alcohol presence.
Taste. Initial impression is intensely rich with layers of dark chocolate and espresso. Big waves of vanilla follow, smoothed by toasted oak and a touch of caramel. The rye whiskey barrels provide a peppery spice that balances the fruity sweetness of the apple brandy barrels.
