Malaje is an assertive, robust American Pale Ale that pushes the boundaries of the style with its higher alcohol content and intense hop profile. The aroma is dominated by the pungent and resinous qualities of Columbus, offering earthy and spicy notes that mingle with the distinct grapefruit and pine needles of Chinook. A bright, citrusy punch from Summit hops provides a sharp top note. The palate is supported by a clean, neutral malt backbone that allows the aggressive hop bitterness to shine. This beer finishes medium-dry with a lingering resinous warmth, characteristic of an ‘Extra Strong’ interpretation of the classic style.

Appearance. Deep gold to light amber in color (7-9 SRM). Pours with a moderately large, off-white head with good retention and fine lacing. Generally clear with high brilliance.

Aroma. High hop intensity featuring resinous pine, grapefruit, and a pungent herbal earthiness. Specific notes of black pepper from Columbus and citrus zest from Summit are evident. Low grainy-sweet malt character provides a subtle background of bread crust. Clean fermentation profile with negligible esters.

Taste. Strong hop flavors of resin, pine, and citrus pith reflect the use of Chinook and Summit. A moderate grainy malt sweetness provides the necessary foundation but quickly gives way to a firm, lingering bitterness. The Columbus hops contribute a spicy, slightly dank complexity in the mid-palate. Finish is dry to medium-dry with a clean, hop-forward aftertaste.

Mouthfeel. Medium body with a smooth texture. Carbonation is moderate to high, providing a crisp sensation. A noticeable but well-integrated alcohol warmth is present, consistent with its higher ABV, without being harsh or fusel.
