Cherry Storm is an opulent Imperial Baltic Porter that has been matured for eighteen months across four varieties of bourbon barrels. This patient aging imparts a luxurious sensory profile where the base beer’s deep dark chocolate and toffee maltiness meet decadent layers of creamy vanilla and toasted coconut from the wood. The infusion of regional cherry juice adds a vibrant, slightly acidic fruit layer, evoking the character of cherries in chocolate. At a significant 12% ABV, it delivers a smooth, expansive warmth and a touch of wild complexity, balancing the intensity of its specialty malts with sophisticated, spirit-inflected depth.
Appearance. Opaque dark brown with deep garnet highlights at the edges (SRM 30+). Features a thick, persistent, tan-colored head with excellent lacing and moderate retention despite the high alcohol content.
Aroma. High intensity. Rich malt scents of dark chocolate, molasses, and toasted nuts are prominent. Complex esters of ripe cherries, plums, and raisins blend with barrel-driven notes of sweet vanilla, toasted coconut, and a touch of oaky bourbon. Noticeable but smooth alcohol presence with a vinous, port-like character.
Taste. Initial impression is of decadent chocolate-covered cherries. Rich malt flavors of dark chocolate and toffee are layered with significant vanilla and coconut from the eighteen-month wood aging. Cherry juice provides a refreshing tartness that cuts through the malty sweetness. Smooth, roasted coffee notes appear mid-palate without any burnt harshness. Medium-low bitterness provides balance. The finish is long and warming, displaying lingering notes of dark fruit, bourbon, and a clean, slightly wild acidity.
Mouthfeel. Full-bodied and viscous with a velvety, creamy texture. Moderate carbonation provides a mouth-filling sensation that prevents it from feeling cloying. Significant, well-integrated alcohol warmth is evident. Very low astringency despite the extended barrel contact.
