This imperial-strength Baltic Porter undergoes a transformative maturation in Jack Daniels barrels, resulting in a profoundly layered sensory experience. A massive 28 blg base provides a viscous foundation of dark chocolate, molasses, and licorice. The barrel aging introduces assertive aromas of charred oak and vanilla, which meld seamlessly with the style’s signature dark fruit esters of prune and raisin. On the palate, the initial malt sweetness is countered by a smooth, Schwarzbier-like roast and a distinct bourbon warmth. This complex beer finishes with a sophisticated, vinous character and a lingering, spirituous depth that highlights its deceptive 10% strength.
Appearance. Opaque dark brown with deep garnet highlights; crowned by a thick, persistent tan head with excellent lacing.
Aroma. High intensity. Rich malt aromas of dark chocolate, toasted nuts, and molasses are complemented by prominent whiskey notes, including vanilla and charred oak. Esters suggest dried plums and black cherries with a subtle vinous, Port-like quality.
Taste. Deeply malty and sweet initially with layers of toffee and licorice.
