Mad Squirrel Brewery’s Einstein is a brilliantly clear, gluten-free Bright IPA that balances technical innovation with high drinkability. This Alternative Grain Beer is powered by a vibrant hop profile featuring Mosaic and the experimental HBC 522, weaving together layers of ripe tropical fruit, bright citrus, and a sophisticated herbal complexity. Despite the alternative fermentable base, the profile remains refreshingly crisp, with the grains providing a subtle, clean foundation rather than heavy sweetness. At 4.8%, it delivers a sharp, clean finish where the citrus notes of the hops shine, proving that gluten-free brewing can achieve remarkable sensory depth and clarity.
Appearance. Pale straw to light gold (3-5 SRM). Brilliantly clear with a bright, white, fine-beaded head that shows moderate retention and leaves light lacing on the glass.
Aroma. High hop intensity featuring Mosaic-led notes of blueberry, mango, and tangerine, complemented by the citrus and distinct herbal, floral qualities of HBC 522. The malt profile is restrained, offering a neutral, slightly grainy or crackery aroma from the alternative grains, with a very clean fermentation character.
Taste. Leading with a burst of tropical fruit and citrus zest, the flavor follows the aroma with pineapple and grapefruit. The alternative grain base provides a light, bready, and slightly nutty flavor that stays in the background. Bitterness is mild and well-integrated (26 IBU), providing just enough structure to balance the fruitiness. The finish is decidedly dry, crisp, and short, with a lingering hint of herbal hops.
Mouthfeel. Medium-light body with a crisp, slightly thin texture characteristic of gluten-free fermentables. Carbonation is moderate to high, providing a refreshing, prickly sensation. No alcohol warmth or astringency is present.
