Mad Squirrel Brewery Afterglow
Afterglow is a radiant Hazy IPA that showcases a sophisticated hop profile of Simcoe, Citra, Sabro, and Idaho 7. This ale leads with intense aromatic waves of ripe mango and zesty tangerine, followed by a distinctively smooth hint of coconut derived from the Sabro hops. A foundation of Idaho 7 and Citra provides layers of juicy pineapple and citrus pith, while Simcoe adds a subtle resinous depth. The bready malt character is supportive but restrained, allowing the massive tropical fruit expression to shine. Its luminous gold appearance and creamy delivery culminate in a soft, refreshing finish with minimal bitterness.
Appearance. Pale hazy gold to light orange (5 SRM). Features a thick, meringue-like white head with high retention and beautiful lacing. The beer is opaque with a characteristic hazy shine, free of any visible hop particulates or yeast clumps.
Aroma. High intensity hop aroma dominated by tropical notes of mango and pineapple, alongside bright tangerine citrus. A subtle, creamy coconut note is present. The malt provides a low, neutral, lightly bready background. Fermentation is clean with supportive fruity esters.
Taste. High fruity hop flavor featuring mango, pineapple, and citrus. Low bready malt flavor provides a soft platform for the hops. Perceived bitterness is low to medium-low, appearing very smooth. The finish is off-dry and soft, with a lingering fruit-forward aftertaste that lacks any hop harshness or astringency.
Mouthfeel. Medium-full body with a soft, pillowy texture. Moderate carbonation. Alcohol warmth is light and well-integrated. The mouthfeel is notably smooth and creamy without being heavy or cloying.
