This imposing Imperial Stout presents a masterful collision of intense dark malts and unconventional barrel aging. The foundation of bittersweet chocolate and espresso-like roast is transformed by the singular influence of Mezcal and hot sauce barrels. Earthy, smoky agave notes from the Mezcal intertwine with a provocative hint of capsicum heat and subtle spice, while the 12.4% ABV provides a significant, integrated warmth. Layers of dried figs and black licorice emerge as it breathes, leading to a complex, lingering finish where charred oak and a faint peppery tingle reside. It is a bold, velvety experience that balances savory smoke with deep, roasty sweetness.

Appearance. Jet black and completely opaque. Pours with a dense, dark tan head that shows moderate retention, eventually subsiding to a thick collar. High viscosity is apparent, leaving persistent legs on the glass.

Aroma. High intensity aroma featuring a base of dark chocolate, heavily roasted coffee, and molasses. The barrel aging is prominent, offering earthy smoke, charred agave, and a distinctive savory pepper note reminiscent of dried chilies. Subtle esters of raisins and plums are tucked behind a noticeable but smooth alcohol presence.

Taste. The initial impression is of rich, bittersweet chocolate and burnt grain, quickly followed by the smoky, vegetal complexity of Mezcal. The hot sauce barrels contribute a faint acidity and a slow-building, spicy capsicum warmth that complements the firm bitterness. Finishes moderately dry with lingering notes of wood smoke, black licorice, and a warming alcohol glow.

Mouthfeel. Full-bodied, thick, and chewy with a velvety, luscious texture. Carbonation is low to moderate. A significant but gentle alcohol warmth is present, accompanied by a slight, spicy tingle on the palate from the hot sauce influence.
