This bold Imperial Stout unfolds with a striking interplay of dark, decadent chocolate and unusual botanical complexity. Aged for over a year in Tennessee rye bourbon barrels, it carries a deep, warming wood-and-whiskey character that elevates the rich, roasted malt base. Piney, resinous rosemary seamlessly bridges the herbal gap to floral lavender, preventing the lavender from becoming overly perfume-like. The result is a highly sophisticated, multi-layered profile where spicy rye whiskey notes, bittersweet cocoa, and savory herbs meld into a warming, harmonious, and utterly unique sipping experience.

Appearance. Jet black and completely opaque. It pours with a thick, dense, dark tan head of moderate retention that leaves a tight collar and oily sheets of lacing. High viscosity is apparent in the slow, heavy legs that cling to the glass.

Aroma. High intensity. A rich bouquet of bittersweet chocolate, dark cocoa, and toasted oak dominates, followed closely by spicy rye bourbon and vanilla. Distinct, well-integrated herbal aromas of piney rosemary and floral lavender weave through the background, alongside subtle notes of dark plum and raisin and a gentle, clean alcohol warmth.

Taste. The initial impression is massively flavorful and complex. Rich dark chocolate, espresso, and deeply roasted malts are supported by a prominent wave of spicy rye whiskey and charred oak. Resinous, savory rosemary and soft, floral lavender add a unique herbal layer that never overpowers. Finishes semi-dry with a lingering aftertaste of cocoa, wood tannin, herbal spice, and a velvety alcohol warmth. Bitterness is firm and balanced.

Mouthfeel. Full and highly viscous body with a chewy, velvety texture that coats the mouth. Carbonation is low to moderate, keeping the beer smooth. A noticeable, comforting, and integrated alcohol warmth is present without any harshness or astringency.

If you have negative feelings toward both, you can still appreciate the massive-spicy-chocolaty base stout that sat more than a year in a rye bourbon barrel that has found a home in Budapest straight from Tennessee. The plan again was to separate ourselves from the comfort zone of nuts, vanilla, and super, but yet more common additions with creating something special that sure brings us to our personal Graceland! A truly “flaneur liquid”.
