The Black Council presents as a formidable American Stout, weaving aggressive roasted character with a specialized infusion of cinnamon and chili. Deep layers of bittersweet chocolate and dark roasted coffee beans dominate the palate, underscored by a resinous hop bitterness that defines the style. The inclusion of cinnamon introduces a woody, aromatic warmth that complements the charred grain, while the chili adds a subtle, earthy depth and a creeping heat on the finish. Balanced by a medium-full body and a dry, lingering roast, this stout offers a complex, fiery interpretation of the classic dark ale.

Appearance. Jet black and completely opaque. It supports a large, persistent head of light brown foam that leaves dense lacing on the glass as it recedes.

Aroma. Moderate to high intensity. Strong notes of roasted coffee and dark chocolate lead, followed by a woody cinnamon spice. Low resiny hop notes are present, with a faint earthy chili undertone and light alcohol esters.

Taste. Initial impression of intense roasted malt, tasting of bittersweet chocolate and slightly burnt coffee. Mid-palate reveals a low malt sweetness and wood-like cinnamon spice. Firm bitterness and resiny hop flavors are balanced by a prickly chili heat. Finishes dry with a lingering roasted quality and spicy warmth.
