Mad Scientist Synthpop Star presents a vibrant, gluten-free interpretation of a West Coast IPA, specifically designed to spotlight the Kohatu hop. The sensory profile is dominated by the hop's characteristic notes of fresh pineapple and crushed pine needles, which dance over a uniquely grainy and slightly nutty malt base provided by alternative fermentables. Despite the absence of traditional barley, the beer maintains a bright, clear appearance and a lean structure. The palate delivers a rhythmic, assertive bitterness that resolves into a crisp, dry finish, ensuring the tropical New Zealand hop character remains the driving force of this clean and refreshing composition.

Appearance. Deep gold to light amber (6–9 SRM). Brilliantly clear with a persistent, fine-beaded white head that leaves moderate lacing on the glass.

Aroma. High intensity hop aroma featuring prominent tropical fruit notes of pineapple and lime zest, backed by a resinous pine character. The malt profile is moderately grainy and bready with a subtle nuttiness typical of alternative grains. Fermentation is very clean with no notable esters or phenols.

Taste. Initial impression is led by a sharp, clean hop bitterness followed by flavors of tropical stone fruit and resin from the Kohatu hops. The malt backbone offers a toasted, cracker-like grain flavor that is less sweet than barley-based versions. The balance is hop-forward with a firm, lingering bitterness. The finish is very dry and crisp.
