Mad Scientist Spiritlord is an opulent, deep-reaching Imperial Stout that masterfully integrates the brightness of sour cherries into a massive, roasty backbone. The experience begins with intense aromas of bittersweet chocolate and espresso, lifted by a sharp, tangy red fruit note that cuts through the decadent malt profile. On the palate, luscious layers of black licorice and charred grain meet the vibrant, acidic snap of real fruit, creating a complex interplay between velvet sweetness and tart contrast. At 12.5% ABV, a smooth, spirit-like warmth emerges, guiding the lingering finish toward a harmonious blend of dark cocoa and dried stone fruit.

Appearance. Opaque, jet black (40+ SRM). Topped by a dense, persistent dark tan to mocha-colored head that leaves thick lacing. Viscous "legs" are prominent on the glass due to the high alcohol content.

Aroma. High intensity. Deeply roasty with prominent notes of dark chocolate, French roast coffee, and light molasses. The addition of sour cherry provides a distinct tart, red-fruit ester profile that complements underlying notes of plum and raisin. Low earthy hop character; noticeable but smooth alcohol presence.

Taste. Rich and complex. Initial flavors of toasted bread and dark cocoa are immediately followed by a bold, tart cherry presence. Firm bitterness balances the significant malt sweetness. Mid-palate reveals hints of black currant and charred grain. The finish is long and warming, evolving from sweet fruit to a dry, roasty, and slightly vinous aftertaste.

Mouthfeel. Full-bodied and viscous with a chewy, velvety texture. Carbonation is low to moderate, enhancing the luscious mouthfeel. Significant but well-integrated alcohol warmth is present without being harsh or solventy.

Az Imperial Stout alkoholosabb, szárazabb, csokisabb a sima stouthoz képest, rendkívül gazdag, édes, telt malátajelleggel. A keserűség származhat pörkölt malátákból vagy komló hozzáadásából. Eredetileg az Orosz cári családnak szánták.

A Stout a porter szárazabb, sötétebb, testesebb erősebb leszármazottja. Színben nagyon hasonlóak, a stoutokban azonban sokkal több a karamellizált pörkölt maláta és a kávés ízvilág, valamint édeskésebbek is. A stout szó első ismert használata egy 1677-ben keltezett, az Egerton Manuscripts-ban talált dokumentumban, amely a sör erősségére utal. 1721-ben használták először a porter nevet egy pörkölt malátával készült sötétbarna sör leírására. A porterek hatalmas népszerűsége miatt a sörfőzők többféle erősségben készítették őket. Az erősebb, jellemzően 7 vagy 8 %-os alkoholtartalmú söröket "stout porter"-nek nevezték, így a stout és a porter története és fejlődése összefonódott.
