Mad Scientist

This intensified Double IPA presents an opaque, pale gold pour, signaling its modern, hazy evolution. The sensory experience is dominated by an explosive hop quartet; Columbus and Simcoe drive pungent aromas of damp pine resin and earthy spice, while Amarillo and Centennial contribute vibrant layers of grapefruit zest and floral honey. At 10.5% ABV, the beer carries a significant but smooth warmth, beautifully integrated into a creamy, medium-full body. The palate balances aggressive bitterness with a soft, bready malt foundation, finishing with a lingering, resinous trail that emphasizes hop saturation over residual sweetness.

Appearance. Pale gold to light amber (7-9 SRM). Opaque and heavily hazy. Dense, creamy white head with excellent persistence and thick, soapy lacing.

Aroma. Intense, pungent hop aroma. Dominant notes of citrus zest (grapefruit, orange), dank pine resin, and floral blossoms. Secondary notes of crushed pineapple and earthy spice. Malt is low and neutral, providing a soft cracker or light dough background. Clean fermentation with a subtle, smooth alcohol presence.

Taste. Aggressive hop-forward profile. Initial rush of citrus and resinous pine, followed by floral and stone fruit notes. Malt flavor is low, providing a supportive soft-wheat or bready character. Bitterness is high but not harsh, well-integrated with a slightly sweet, fruity ester profile. Finish is medium-dry with a lingering, oily hop resin aftertaste and a clean, warming glow.

Mouthfeel. Medium-full body with a silky, creamy texture. Moderate carbonation. Noticeable but well-integrated alcohol warmth that provides a smooth chest-heating sensation without being solventy. Low astringency.
