Mad Brewing Trigo Hoppy is a refreshing and assertive White IPA that expertly balances the creamy, bread-like textures of a high wheat grain bill with the bold, citrusy intensity of New World hops. The sensory experience is led by a vibrant bouquet of grapefruit and tropical fruit, supported by a subtle, grainy sweetness. While the wheat provides a smooth, medium-light body and a characteristic haze, the finish is decidedly dry and crisp. This Specialty IPA offers a firm, clean bitterness that lingers pleasantly, emphasizing drinkability and a bright, hop-forward profile over malt complexity.
Appearance. Presents a pale to deep gold color (6–8 SRM) with a notable haze typical of high wheat content. It is topped by a large, white, persistent head with excellent lacing.
Aroma. High hop aroma with prominent notes of grapefruit, orange peel, and pineapple. The malt character is low to moderate, displaying a bready, grainy wheat quality. Fermentation is clean, though subtle fruity esters from the yeast may complement the tropical hop profile.
Taste. Initial impression is a burst of citrus and resinous hop flavors, quickly followed by a soft, bready wheat malt backbone. It features a medium-high bitterness that is firm but not harsh. The finish is dry and crisp, with a lingering hop flavor and a clean, refreshing aftertaste that avoids any heavy roast or caramel notes.
Mouthfeel. Medium-light body with a characteristic smoothness and light creaminess from the wheat. Carbonation is moderate to high, providing a prickly effervescence. Alcohol warmth is low and well-integrated at 5.2% ABV.
