LB 401 is a complex Foreign Extra Stout that showcases a meticulous grist of 8 malts, delivering an unadulterated and deeply sensory experience. Despite its session-leaning strength, it retains the style's signature robust malt profile and firm bitterness. Appearance. Very deep brown to opaque black (30-40 SRM). Boasts a large, creamy tan head with excellent retention and thick lacing.
Aroma. Moderate to high intensity roast with dominant notes of dark chocolate and espresso. Low dark fruit esters reminiscent of dried plum. Very low earthy hop aroma with no detectable diacetyl or fermentation byproducts.
Taste. Strong initial impression of cocoa and roasted malt. The flavor is chocolatey and roasty without a sharp or burnt bite. Medium-high bitterness provides a solid balance, finishing moderately dry with a lingering roasted grain and coffee-like aftertaste.
