Lowercase Brewing Czech Style Pilsner

Bohemian Pilsener 5 º 44 IBU
This Czech Premium Pale Lager offers a refined sensory experience, blending traditional Bohemian Pilsner malt with a subtle addition of English crystal malt for enhanced depth and a golden hue. The aroma is defined by a saturated presence of Saaz hops, delivering high-intensity notes of spicy herbs and delicate wildflowers. On the palate, a bready, rich malt core is balanced by a soft yet pronounced bitterness, characteristic of the soft water profile used for this "beer of kings." Fermented with authentic Czech lager yeast, the finish is long and rounded, reflecting a masterfully executed balance between complex grain character and classic noble hop aromatics.
Appearance. Deep gold color (approx 6 SRM). Brilliant clarity with a dense, long-lasting, creamy white head that leaves persistent lacing.
Aroma. Medium-high intensity. Initial bouquet of spicy, herbal Saaz hops layered over a rich, bready-sweet malt foundation. A subtle hint of caramel is present. Very low fermentation esters; no detectable diacetyl.
Taste. Rich, complex bready maltiness upfront with a slight toasted sweetness. Pronounced but rounded and soft bitterness from heavy Saaz additions, providing spicy and floral flavors. The finish is long and clean, echoing bready grain and lingering herbal hop notes without harshness.
Mouthfeel. Medium body with a soft, rounded texture. Moderate carbonation. Negligible alcohol warmth. Smooth and creamy with no astringency.

Did you know England was the first to manage making pale malt (that didn’t smell like a campfire)? It was them sheisty Austrians and Germans that sneakily “borrowed” the innovative process, took it back to their homelands and began making lighter colored beer…eventually brewing the beer that has dominated the world since then…pilsner. We wanted to pay homage to England for its hand in making “the beer of kings” so we added a bit of English crystal malt to a Bohemian Pilsner malt base, saturated the wort with Czech Saaz hops, then fermented with THE Czech lager yeast.

This beer reminds us of the lovely Czech quote, “in times of great decison, have another beer”.
