This Oatmeal Stout presents a decadent sensory experience, driven by an intricate blend of seven roasted and caramelized malts. The inclusion of oats provides a luxuriously smooth, velvety foundation that carries deep layers of dark chocolate and raw cocoa from the addition of cocoa nibs. Fragrant vanilla enhances the perception of sweetness without the use of lactose, creating a powerful mocha-like aromatic profile. On the palate, the initial bittersweet chocolate richness transitions into notes of fresh black coffee and earthy malt. The finish is remarkably balanced and smooth, leaving a lingering impression of refined cocoa and toasted grain that invites another sip.
Appearance. Opaque deep brown to black in color (SRM 40). Topped by a thick, creamy, and persistent tan-colored head that leaves significant lacing on the glass.
Aroma. High intensity of dark chocolate and cocoa nibs with a secondary layer of powerful mocha and fresh-ground coffee. A light malty sweetness is complemented by fragrant vanilla, while the oats provide a subtle grainy-nutty undertone. Low earthy hop notes and minimal fruity esters.
Taste. The initial impression is one of rich, bittersweet dark chocolate and raw cocoa. A complex malt profile follows with notes of toasted grain and nutty oats. Medium bitterness provides balance against the vanilla-enhanced sweetness. The finish is smooth and clean, leaving a lingering aftertaste of black coffee and roasted malts without any harshness.
Mouthfeel. Medium-full body with a remarkably silky, velvety, and almost oily texture derived from the heavy use of oats. Carbonation is moderate, contributing to a creamy mouthfeel. A very light, well-integrated alcohol warmth is present at 6% ABV.
