Los Reyes Malos is a sophisticated Imperial Stout that masterfully integrates the botanical depth of Ratafia Russet d’Olot. A pitch-black pour releases an intense bouquet of espresso, bittersweet chocolate, and charred grain, quickly followed by the liqueur’s signature aromatic profile of green walnut, anise, and wild Mediterranean herbs. The palate is full and velvety, showcasing a complex interplay between dark roasted malts and the spiced, nutty nuances of the ratafia infusion. Despite its strength, the beer avoids being cloying, finishing with a balanced bitterness and a clean, lingering warmth that highlights its unique, spirit-enhanced character.

Appearance. Jet black and opaque (40 SRM). Topped by a dense, persistent dark tan head that leaves thick lacing on the glass. High viscosity is apparent in the way the liquid moves.

Aroma. High intensity. Prominent scents of dark chocolate and roasted coffee beans lead, followed immediately by the aromatic profile of ratafia: black licorice, anise, and woody walnut. Subdued dark fruit esters of prune and raisin provide a sweet backdrop. A clean, integrated alcohol presence is detectable.

Taste. Bold initial impression of burnt grain and bittersweet cocoa. The mid-palate is dominated by the herbal and spicy character of the Ratafia Russet, introducing notes of clove and toasted nuts. Moderate-high bitterness from both roasted grains and hops provides balance. The finish is moderately dry, preventing the herbal sweetness from becoming cloying, with a lingering aftertaste of botanical spice and dark malt.

Mouthfeel. Full-bodied and chewy with a luscious, velvety texture. Carbonation is moderate. A gentle, smooth alcohol warmth glows in the throat without being sharp or solventy.
