L’Oriental Reload is an approachable American Stout that balances intense roasted character with a smooth, velvety texture. Deeply influenced by Roasted Barley and Chocolate malt, it offers a decadent profile of bittersweet cocoa and espresso. The inclusion of flaked and malted oats provides a significant creamy body that softens the roast's edges. A distinct citrusy zest from Cascade hops cuts through the malt weight, adding a layer of grapefruit and floral pine. Despite its sessionable strength, it maintains a rich, lingering finish reminiscent of dark caramel and toasted grains.
Appearance. Jet black and opaque (35-40 SRM). Features a thick, persistent light tan head with fine bubbles and excellent lacing.
Aroma. Moderate to high intensity. Dominant notes of dark chocolate and freshly roasted coffee beans. Subtle background of citrusy grapefruit and light resin from Cascade hops. Very low fruity esters; no perceptible alcohol.
Taste. Initial flavors of bittersweet chocolate and espresso grounds. Mid-palate reveals a smooth, toasted caramel sweetness. Moderate to high bitterness that is well-balanced by the grainy richness of the oats. Hop flavor is distinctly American, showing citrus and light floral notes from the Cascade additions.
