This vibrant Berliner Weisse bursts with an intense, jammy medley of ripe raspberries, blueberries, and blackberries, immediately capturing the senses. Brewed to a modern, robust strength of 6% ABV, the sharp, clean lactic sourness traditional to the style is beautifully softened by a silky addition of lactose and a comforting whisper of sweet vanilla. The result is a refreshing, summer-ready sour ale that masterfully balances mouth-watering tartness with a creamy, dessert-like complexity. Vibrant berry notes dominate from first sniff to the lingering, fruit-forward finish, supported by a subtle, doughy wheat backbone.
Appearance. Deep reddish-purple to magenta with a vibrant, pinkish hue. Hazy to opaque due to the heavy fruit addition and wheat protein. Pours with a moderate, frothy pink-tinted head that dissipates fairly quickly, leaving light lacing.
Aroma. High intensity. Dominant aromas of fresh raspberry, jammy blackberry, and sweet blueberry. A prominent lactic tartness cuts through, complemented by a soft, sweet ribbon of vanilla and a gentle creaminess from lactose. Behind the fruit, a very low, clean, doughy wheat malt character is perceptible. No hop aroma.
Taste. Sharp, clean lactic sourness immediately strikes the palate, quickly met by a lush wave of mixed berry flavors—tart raspberry, sweet blueberry, and rich blackberry. Lactose provides a subtle, sweet counter-balance to the acidity, while vanilla adds a smooth, dessert-like roundness. A light, doughy wheat malt flavor anchors the mid-palate. Hop bitterness is undetectable, with sourness and fruit acidity providing the balance. Finishes off-dry and exceptionally fruit-forward with a lingering tart-sweet berry aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium body, elevated above the traditional light style by the lactose addition and higher alcohol content. Moderate to high carbonation provides a lively, refreshing effervescence. Crisp acidity creates a mouth-watering sensation, while the lactose and vanilla impart a smooth, slightly creamy texture. A subtle, clean alcohol warmth is present but well-integrated.
