Appearance. Jet black and opaque (SRM 40). Topped by a dense, persistent, light tan head that leaves significant lacing on the glass.
Aroma. Moderate to high intensity. Dominant notes of dark chocolate and sweet, sun-ripened blueberry. Underlying roasted coffee and toasted bread scents are present, with a very low, subtle resinous hop character and clean fermentation profile.
Taste. Initial impression of sweet blueberry and rich cocoa. The mid-palate reveals roasted grain, bittersweet chocolate, and a hint of caramel. Moderate bitterness balances the fruit-forward sweetness. The finish is medium-dry with a lingering note of dark fruit and mild coffee roast.
Mouthfeel. Medium-full body with a smooth, creamy texture. Carbonation is moderate to high, providing a lift that prevents the sweetness from becoming cloying. Alcohol warmth is very low and well-integrated.
