Stout 8 º
Lion Stout is a remarkably dense and evocative Tropical Stout, reflecting its British heritage within a tropical context. It presents a deep black visage with subtle garnet highlights and a persistent, creamy tan head. The sensory experience is dominated by an inviting bouquet of dark chocolate and roasted coffee beans, underscored by a characteristic fruity sweetness reminiscent of raisins and molasses. On the palate, the beer is exceptionally smooth and velvety, balancing robust roasted bitterness with a rich, malty sweetness. Despite its substantial strength, the alcohol provides a gentle, well-integrated warmth, culminating in a clean, lingering finish of bittersweet cocoa.
Appearance. Opaque black (SRM 40+) with deep mahogany or reddish highlights when held to the light. Features a thick, creamy, long-lasting tan head with fine bubbles and excellent lacing.
Aroma. High intensity. Prominent roasted malt character with distinct notes of espresso and dark chocolate. Significant fruity esters suggesting dark fruits like prunes or raisins. Low to no hop aroma. Clean fermentation profile with a sweet, molasses-like malt background.
Taste. Initial sweet impression of dark malt and caramel, followed by rich roasted flavors of coffee and bittersweet chocolate. Moderate bitterness provides balance against the malt sweetness. High fruitiness (esters) complements the roasted grain. The finish is smooth and sweet-leaning, with a lingering cocoa aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Full-bodied and viscous; very smooth and creamy texture. Moderate-high carbonation. Noticeable but well-integrated alcohol warmth (8% ABV). Low to no astringency from the roasted grains.

“This is the masterpiece of which I am most proud, as is one of my sons after whom it is named.
What makes this traditional kriek special is that it is brewed with whole cherries. Since real Schaerbeek cherries are scarce, Lindemans Brewery has found their perfect equivalence elsewhere in Europe.
It is deep red in colour and its foam head is slightly pink. Very refreshing, this beverage is a perfect thirst-quencher which, thanks to its fizzy and tangy flavour, is ideal as an aperitif.”

The cherries ferment in lambic that is at least six months old in large 10,000-litre wood barrels called foudres to make the Oude Kriek Cuvée René. This traditional kriek is bottled in corked 75 cl bottles after six months. The beer will then go through a spontaneous second fermentation phase, which will produce the carbon dioxide (CO2) that gives this true beer its carbonation and unmistakable foam head after a few months.
