LINEMAN Smudge is a characterful Oatmeal Stout that emphasizes a decadent interplay between dark malts and cocoa. The sensory journey opens with a rich, malt-driven milk chocolate profile, buoyed by the signature silky and velvety texture inherent to the use of oats. This grain-derived smoothness provides a platform for the deeper, more structured notes of roasted malt and a distinct, lingering cocoa finish. While leaning into the sweetness of chocolate, the beer maintains its composure with a gentle, earthy hop presence and a soft, nutty graininess, delivering a balanced and deeply comforting dark ale experience.
Appearance. Dark brown to opaque black (35-40 SRM). Thick, creamy, and highly persistent tan head with excellent lacing.
Aroma. Moderate intensity with a coffee-and-cream malt sweetness. Prominent milk chocolate and cocoa notes are supported by a light nutty-grainy oatmeal character and low earthy hops. Subtle dark fruit esters may be present.
Taste. Initial malt-driven milk chocolate flavors transition into a distinct, dry cocoa finish. Medium roasted coffee bitterness balances a nutty, toasty grain character from the oats. Finish is medium-sweet to medium-dry, leaving a lingering impression of dark chocolate and roasted grain.
Mouthfeel. Medium-full body with a characteristic silky, velvety, and smooth texture. Moderate carbonation with a creamy presence and very light, well-integrated alcohol warmth.
