This refreshing cask pale offers a modern twist on the classic Ordinary Bitter, prioritizing high drinkability and a crisp finish. The aromatic profile is defined by a bright, fruit-forward interplay of Simcoe, Nelson Sauvin, and Citra, delivering layered notes of resinous pine, white grape, and vibrant citrus zest. Beneath the modern hop character, a delicate backbone of biscuity malt provides a balanced foundation. On the palate, a firm but approachable bitterness leads into a clean, dry conclusion. Served on cask, the texture is exceptionally smooth with a gentle carbonation that emphasizes its easy-drinking, refreshing nature.
Appearance. Light copper to pale amber (SRM 8-10). Brilliant clarity. Low, creamy off-white head with moderate retention and light lacing, typical of cask-conditioned ales.
Aroma. Moderate intensity. Distinct hop aromas of gooseberry, grapefruit, and a hint of pine are prominent. Secondary malt notes of biscuit and light toast provide a solid base. Low fruity esters are present, with no diacetyl.
Taste. Initial impression is decidedly bitter but balanced by a bready, biscuity malt flavor. Medium-high bitterness is complemented by hop flavors of citrus zest and white wine. The fermentation is clean with low fruity esters. The finish is dry and crisp, with a lingering, pleasant bitterness and earthy hop character.
Mouthfeel. Medium-light body with a smooth, almost creamy texture from the cask service. Low carbonation. Minimal alcohol warmth and no astringency.

LEFT HANDED GIANT - In 2014, a man named Rich Poole walked into Small Bar, Bristol, and handed some beer over to Bruce Gray and Jack Granger. This began a brewing journey that started on a 200L kit through the back of that same bar, before developing into a cuckoo brewery operation known as Left Handed Giant.Our own physical brewery operation began in 2017, before raising more than £1m from the local community via Crowdcube to build the beating heart of our business, a brewpub overlooking the floating harbour in the centre of Bristol, which opened in 2019. We now operate over 2 brewing sites, producing around 4000 hL of beer annually, sold through independent pubs, bars and bottle shops with the majority straight to tap through our Finzels Reach Brewpub, our St Philips Tap Room and still, from where it all began at Small Bar. We are proudly a Founder, Employee and Community owned business. We are owned and operated by the people who work in and use our premises, and drink our beer. We have 1500 shareholders in our small company, with more than 80% of them having BS postcodes.
