LHG Brewpub Five Candles
This West Coast-inspired American Pale Ale celebrates five years with a vibrant, hop-forward profile. A massive 60% wheat grist provides a soft, bready foundation for the classic hop quartet of Amarillo, Cascade, Crystal, and Willamette. Expect a bright sensory experience led by layers of zesty citrus and floral grapefruit from the Amarillo and Cascade, balanced by the subtle woody spice and herbal earthiness of Crystal and Willamette. The dry-hop addition amplifies the resinous aromatic punch. It finishes with a crisp, refreshing bitterness and a clean, lingering citrus trail that invites another sip.
Appearance. Pale golden to light amber (6-8 SRM). Topped with a moderately large, white, persistent head with fine lacing. Generally clear, though the high wheat content may contribute a very slight, brilliant haze.
Aroma. Moderately high intensity hop aroma featuring prominent grapefruit, orange zest, and resinous pine. Subtle floral notes and a light spicy, herbal undertone are present. Low, grainy, and slightly bready malt character supports the hops. Clean fermentation profile with minimal esters.
Taste. Initial impression is bright and hop-centric with flavors of citrus peel and resinous pine. Firm, crisp bitterness that is well-integrated. The malt flavor is low but provides a grainy, wheaty backbone that balances the hop charge. Finishes dry and clean with lingering notes of grapefruit and subtle spice.
Mouthfeel. Medium-light body with a slightly soft texture from the high wheat percentage. Moderate to high carbonation provides a lively, crisp sensation. No noticeable alcohol warmth. Smooth finish without astringency.
