L’Estupenda Tripel Cuvée presents a masterful evolution of the Belgian Tripel style, distinguished by its maturation in French oak barrels. The sensory experience is led by a complex aromatic profile of peppery spice and citrusy esters, reminiscent of lemon peel and orange, woven into a foundation of grainy-sweet Pilsner malt. The French oak introduces a sophisticated wood character, adding subtle tannins and spicy nuances that complement the yeast-driven phenols. At 9% ABV, the warmth is remarkably well-integrated, providing a sneaky strength within an effervescent, medium-bodied frame. It concludes with a characteristically dry finish, balanced by a firm, lingering bitterness and refined oak presence.
Appearance.Deep gold to pale amber (5-7 SRM) with excellent clarity and high effervescence. It supports a long-lasting, creamy, rocky white head that leaves significant lacing as it recedes.
Aroma.Moderate to high intensity. A seamless bouquet of spicy, peppery phenols and fruity esters suggesting orange zest and lemon. The French oak maturation adds a subtle spicy wood character and a faint hint of vanilla, overlying a light, honey-like malt sweetness and soft, spicy alcohol notes.
Taste. The initial impression is a play between grainy-sweet malt and spicy yeast character. The mid-palate reveals citrus fruit notes and peppery phenols. The French oak adds complexity through light wood tannins and additional spice. It features a firm bitterness that, along with high attenuation, ensures a crisp, dry finish with a lingering spicy-fruity aftertaste.
Mouthfeel.Medium body with a surprisingly light, effervescent feel due to high carbonation. There is a gentle, well-integrated alcohol warmth and a very slight drying sensation from the oak tannins, but no astringency or harshness.
