Gotland presents as a sophisticated Baltic Porter, showcasing a deep, multilayered malt profile. Rich notes of Munich and Vienna malts provide a sturdy base of toasted bread and nutty complexity. Aromas of dark chocolate, molasses, and licorice intertwine with an elegant ester profile of dried plums and black currants. Despite its 7.2% ABV, the alcohol is smoothly integrated, offering a deceptive drinkability reminiscent of a strong Doppelbock. The palate is defined by dark-fruit richness and a clean, lager-like fermentation, finishing with a smooth, lingering roast that avoids any burnt harshness, balanced by a subtle, spicy Continental hop presence.

Appearance. Deep reddish-copper to opaque dark brown with brilliant clarity in the highlights. Topped with a thick, creamy, tan-colored head featuring excellent persistence and fine lacing.

Aroma. High intensity rich maltiness featuring deep toast, toffee, and licorice. Complex ester profile of moderate strength suggests dark cherries, raisins, and prunes. Deep accents of dark chocolate and coffee are present without any burnt or acrid notes. Clean fermentation with no hop aroma.

Taste. Initial malty sweetness quickly develops into a complex blend of molasses, nutty Munich malt, and smooth, Schwarzbier-like roast. Flavors of dark dried fruits and black currants provide depth. Low bitterness balances the rich malt without being cloying. Finishes dryish with a lingering aftertaste of roasted coffee and dark fruit.

Mouthfeel. Medium-full body with a very smooth, creamy texture. Medium-high carbonation provides a mouth-filling quality that prevents the beer from feeling heavy. Noticeable, well-aged alcohol warmth provides a gentle, pleasant glow.
