This monumental Imperial Stout emerges from twenty months in Finnish Rye Whisky barrels with a profound sensory depth. The initial impact is a dense tapestry of rich cacao and earthy, mild tobacco, seamlessly woven into an intense roasted grain profile. The Finnish Rye Whisky provides a spicy, spirit-forward complexity that balances the massive malt backbone. Deep notes of dark chocolate and espresso are punctuated by dried fruit esters like raisins and figs. At 14.7% ABV, the experience is viscous and velvety, concluding with a persistent, warming finish where charred oak and peppery rye spice linger elegantly against a backdrop of bittersweet chocolate.
Appearance. Jet black and opaque (40+ SRM). Pours with a thick, dark brown head that shows moderate retention. High viscosity is evident by prominent legs on the glass.
Aroma. High intensity with a complex blend of rich cocoa, dark chocolate, and heavy roasted coffee. Prominent Finnish Rye Whisky character offers spicy grain notes and charred oak, accompanied by hints of mild tobacco and dark fruit esters resembling prunes and raisins.
Taste. Intense initial impression of bittersweet chocolate and roasted malt. The mid-palate introduces a firm spirit character with spicy rye notes, vanilla, and earthy tobacco. Medium-high bitterness balances the massive malt sweetness. The finish is long and complex, featuring lingering notes of cocoa, oak, and a smooth, vinous warmth.
Mouthfeel. Very full-bodied and chewy with a luscious, velvety texture. Carbonation is low to moderate. A significant, smooth alcohol warmth is present but integrated, without being sharp or solventy.
