Lervig Nitro Stout is a quintessential Irish Stout that masterfully captures the classic draught experience via its nitrogenated widget. It opens with an inviting bouquet of deep-roasted coffee and bittersweet cocoa, underpinned by a faint earthy hop presence. The nitrogen pour creates a signature cascading effect, resulting in a dense, creamy tan head over a jet-black body with ruby highlights. On the palate, a crisp roasted grain sharpness is balanced by a surprisingly smooth, medium-bodied mouthfeel. The finish is famously dry and clean, leaving a lingering impression of dark chocolate and a firm, hop-driven bitterness that defines the style and encourages another sip.
Appearance. Jet black and opaque with deep ruby highlights when held to light. Features a thick, exceptionally creamy, and long-lasting tan head with fine bubbles and persistent lacing characteristic of a nitrogen pour.
Aroma. Moderate to high intensity dominated by roasted coffee and burnt grain. Secondary notes of unsweetened cocoa and dark chocolate are present. Very low earthy hop aroma with a clean, neutral fermentation profile and minimal fruity esters.
Taste. Leading with sharp, roasted malt flavors reminiscent of espresso and dry toast. Medium-high bitterness provides a clean, hoppy balance against the dark grains. A hint of bittersweet chocolate appears mid-palate. The finish is decidedly dry and crisp, with a lingering roasty character that remains smooth rather than harsh.
Mouthfeel. Medium-light body with a silky, ultra-smooth creaminess provided by the nitrogen dispense. Carbonation is low but fine-textured. No perceptible alcohol warmth. Finishes clean with a slight, pleasant roasted grain dryness.
