This American IPA delivers a unique botanical twist on the style’s classic citrus and tropical foundations. Le Prospecteur utilizes matricaire odorante to impart a distinctive aromatic layer of wild chamomile and zesty lemon, which intertwines seamlessly with the punchy hop profile. While described with New England influences, the sensory experience aligns with a structured bitterness that offsets a lean, grainy malt base. The result is a vibrant, golden-hued ale where the herbal nuances of the pineapple weed elevate the bright pineapple and mango hop notes, culminating in a crisp, moderately dry finish that remains hop-forward and exceptionally aromatic.
Appearance. Pale gold (SRM 5) with a slight, inviting haze. Topped by a medium-sized, white, persistent head that leaves light lacing on the glass.
Aroma. High intensity hop-driven aromatics of grapefruit and mango, layered with the unique, perfumed influence of matricaire odorante, evoking crushed chamomile flowers and lemon zest. Low grainy malt sweetness provides a clean, supporting background.
Taste. An initial punch of tropical fruit and citrus rind is followed by a firm, medium-high bitterness. The specialty addition of matricaire odorante contributes a floral, herbal tea-like quality and bright lemon notes. The finish is medium-dry with a lingering hoppy and botanical aftertaste and clean malt support.
Mouthfeel. Medium body with a smooth, soft texture. Carbonation is medium-high, providing a lively prickle on the tongue. A very light, clean alcohol warmth is present but well-integrated.
