This Double IPA showcases a vibrant, multi-layered hop profile led by Mosaic, Riwaka, Nectaron, and Krush. The sensory experience opens with an explosion of passion fruit, mango, and ripe nectarine, transitioning into subtle pine and dank undertones. A clean, neutral malt base provides a lean foundation, allowing the intense hop character to remain the focus without the weight of heavy caramel. Despite its 8.1% ABV, the beer finishes remarkably dry and crisp, with a firm bitterness that cleanses the palate. The alcohol is well-integrated, offering a smooth warmth that complements the punchy citrus and tropical fruit notes.

Appearance. Pale gold to light orange (6-8 SRM). Topped with a moderate-sized, persistent, white head that leaves significant lacing. Good clarity with only a very faint haze.

Aroma. Intense hop aroma dominated by tropical fruits (pineapple, mango) and stone fruits (peach) from Nectaron and Krush. Mosaic adds notes of blueberry and citrus, while Riwaka contributes a sharp pink grapefruit and slight diesel-like complexity. Malt is low and neutral, providing a light crackery background. Fermentation is clean with very low fruity esters.

Taste. High hop flavor mirroring the aroma; immediate flavors of tropical guava, passion fruit, and citrus zest. Bitterness is firm and moderately high but lacks any harsh or vegetal edges. The malt profile is supportive and unobtrusive, tasting of light grain and pale bread. The balance is decidedly hop-forward, leading to a dry finish with a lingering, clean hop bitterness and a touch of fruit skin in the aftertaste.

Mouthfeel. Medium body with a smooth, slightly oily texture from the heavy hopping. Carbonation is medium-high, providing a lively prickle. A gentle, restrained alcohol warmth is present, enhancing the fullness without being solventy. No astringency.

“Wairua” en maorí significa espíritu o alma, y venía perfecto para esta nueva etapa. Mantiene el espíritu de la Hopzale original, pero ahora el alma viene de Nueva Zelanda, gracias a los lúpulos Motueka y Krush , que aportan notas de lima, cítricos, mango, guava, melocotón y frutas de bosque.

El resultado es esta West Coast DIPA : base maltosa muy ligera, todo el foco en el lúpulo, final largo, resinoso y muy aromático. Misma actitud salvaje, nuevo espíritu.
