HELLSTAR is a monumental Imperial Stout that commands attention with its profound complexity. After twenty-one months in Bordeaux wine barrels, the initial intensity of scorched grain and bittersweet chocolate has evolved into a sophisticated tapestry of dark fruit and refined oak. Deep layers of black currant, fig, and black cherry from the vinous contact interlace with the beer’s inherent licorice and espresso notes. The extended maturation has softened the high alcohol into a velvet-smooth warmth, while the wood provides a structured, tannic backbone that balances the residual malt sweetness. It is a harmonious, slow-sipping experience where every element—from charred malt to red wine elegance—is perfectly integrated.

Appearance. Jet black and opaque (SRM 40+). It pours with a dense, deep tan head of moderate retention that leaves thick legs on the glass, indicative of its high viscosity and alcohol content.

Aroma. High intensity and deeply complex. Dominant notes of bittersweet chocolate, espresso, and black licorice are layered with pronounced vinous esters reflecting black currant, plum, and dried figs. The Bordeaux barrel aging contributes a refined oak character, vanilla, and a subtle port-like oxidation. Alcohol is noticeable but smooth, never sharp.

Taste. An intense, multi-layered profile of roasted grain, cocoa, and charred malt. The mid-palate is rich with vinous fruitiness and dark berry flavors from the wine barrels. Bitterness is firm and well-integrated, balancing the malt richness. The finish is long and complex, featuring a lingering interplay of roasted bitterness, oak tannins, and a warming, slightly dry aftertaste.

Mouthfeel. Full to very full-bodied with a thick, chewy, and velvety texture. Carbonation is low to moderate. A significant but gentle alcohol warmth spreads across the palate, accompanied by a light, pleasant tannic astringency from the long maturation in wood.
