This Imperial Stout presents an opulent sensory journey, transformed by the exotic influence of Amburana wood. It pours a dense, opaque obsidian, crowned with a persistent deep tan foam. The aroma is an intense fusion of roasted espresso and dark cocoa, pierced by the wood's assertive notes of cinnamon, vanilla, and tonka bean. On the palate, a viscous, chewy body carries flavors of bittersweet chocolate and black molasses, harmonizing with the Amburana’s spicy gingerbread character. The 11% ABV provides a velvety warmth that integrates with dark fruit esters of prune and raisin, culminating in a complex, lingering, and spicy-sweet finish.
Appearance. Jet black and opaque (SRM 40+). A thick, creamy, deep tan head provides moderate retention, leaving oily legs on the glass as the liquid recedes.
Aroma. High intensity. Dominated by dark chocolate, roasted coffee, and molasses. The Amburana wood adds powerful notes of cinnamon, vanilla, and clove. Secondary aromas of dark fruit esters—specifically prune and raisin—are present alongside a clean, vinous alcohol warmth.
Taste. Rich and multifaceted. Initial flavors of bittersweet chocolate and burnt grain are immediately followed by the spicy, gingerbread-like character of Amburana wood. Hop bitterness is firm but tempered by the malt density. Mid-palate reveals dark fruit notes of fig and black currant, leading to a long, warming finish with lingering notes of spicy wood and toasted marshmallow.
Mouthfeel. Full to very full-bodied with a luscious, velvety, and chewy texture. Carbonation is low to moderate. A significant but smooth alcohol warmth is present without being harsh or solventy.
