This formidable Russian Imperial Stout presents a profound sensory experience defined by its immense roasted depth and a unique infusion of cedar wood chips. The base offers a complex foundation of dark chocolate, espresso, and molasses, while the cedar wood adds a distinctive, resinous aromatic lift reminiscent of sandalwood and evergreen forests. At 12% ABV, the beer carries a significant but smooth warmth that integrates seamlessly with the charred grain character. The palate is chewy and viscous, balancing heavy roasted bitterness with a residual malt sweetness, culminating in a long, wood-inflected finish that showcases the interplay between dark malt and spicy timber.

Appearance. Jet black and completely opaque (40+ SRM). Pours with a thick, dense, deep tan head with moderate retention that leaves persistent lacing. Noticeable viscosity is evident as slow-moving legs on the glass.

Aroma. High intensity with a rich blend of bittersweet chocolate, burnt coffee, and black licorice. The cedar wood chips contribute a prominent woody, spicy, and slightly balsamic character. Low esters of dried figs and prunes are present, alongside a clean but powerful alcohol note and very low earthy hop character.

Taste. Initial impression is of intense dark roasted malts, featuring flavors of cocoa powder, charred toast, and dark fruit. The cedar influence provides a mid-palate complexity of resinous wood and mild spice. Bitterness is firm and assertive, balancing the high malt sugars. The finish is lingering and bittersweet with a drying wood-tannin effect and a smooth, vinous warmth.

Mouthfeel. Full-bodied and exceptionally chewy with a velvety, luscious texture. Carbonation is low to moderate. A significant, pleasant alcohol warmth is felt in the throat, providing a glow without being harsh or solventy.
