Larkin’s Brewing Co Coco Loco presents a decadent Imperial Stout experience, masterfully blending roasted intensity with tropical indulgence. An opaque, jet-black pour yields aromas of bittersweet chocolate and espresso, further enriched by the nutty, sweet perfume of toasted coconut. Jamaican Rum barrel aging introduces sophisticated layers of spicy vanilla, molasses, and charred oak that meld into the base beer’s dark fruit esters of prune and raisin. On the palate, a lush, velvety texture supports deep cocoa flavors and a persistent coconut sweetness, balanced by a firm hop bitterness. This complex stout finishes with a smooth, lingering warmth and a touch of dark sugar and oak tannin.

Appearance. Color is jet black and opaque (SRM 40+). It features a thick, creamy, deep tan head with moderate retention and significant lacing. Visible legs are apparent upon swirling, indicating high viscosity and alcohol content.

Aroma. High intensity aroma of dark chocolate, roasted coffee, and heavily toasted coconut. Jamaican rum influence adds notes of vanilla, oak, and molasses. Low but present dark fruit esters suggest black currant and plum. Hop aroma is very low, masked by the barrel and coconut character.

Taste. Initial impression is of rich bittersweet chocolate and nutty toasted coconut. The mid-palate reveals rum-derived flavors of burnt sugar and spice, supported by a deep roasted malt backbone. Moderate-high bitterness provides balance against the residual sweetness. Notes of dried figs and raisins emerge before a long, warming finish with a lingering cocoa and oak aftertaste.

Mouthfeel. Full-bodied and chewy with a velvety, luscious texture. Carbonation is low to moderate. A smooth, gentle alcohol warmth is noticeable but well-integrated, consistent with its 8.3% ABV and barrel aging. No significant astringency.
