This West Coast IPA presents a modern, layered sensory experience driven by a double dry-hopping of Chinook, Simcoe, Nelson, and Strata. It opens with an aggressive bouquet of resinous pine and grapefruit zest from the Chinook and Simcoe, quickly followed by the sophisticated white grape and gooseberry notes of Nelson. Strata introduces a complex tropical layer of passionfruit and subtle herbal dankness. The palate is defined by a clean, crisp malt backbone that provides a neutral stage for these vibrant hops to shine. A firm, snapping bitterness leads into a bone-dry finish, exemplifying the style's refreshing and hop-forward intent through a brilliantly clear, golden pour.
Appearance. Deep gold (7 SRM). Brilliantly clear with a medium-sized, off-white head characterized by excellent persistence and dense lacing.
Aroma. High intensity hop aroma featuring prominent notes of resinous pine, grapefruit, and spicy citrus. Secondary layers of tropical passionfruit, gooseberry, and a hint of white wine. Very low, clean, grainy malt supports the hops. Clean fermentation profile with no significant esters.
Taste. Initial impression is a sharp, clean hop punch. High hop flavor mirrors the aroma with grapefruit pith, pine needles, and tropical berry. Low grainy-sweet malt provides minimal support. Bitterness is firm and assertive (~65 IBU), leading into a very dry, crisp finish with a lingering, clean hoppy aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium-light body with a smooth, crisp texture. Moderate-high carbonation provides a refreshing bite. Very light, smooth alcohol warmth is present but well-integrated. No astringency despite the high hopping rate.
