La Superbe CHECKMATE is a vibrant Hazy IPA that exemplifies the juicy, modern profile of a Double Dry Hopped ale. Utilizing a punchy combination of Nectaron, Citra, and El Dorado hops, the sensory experience is dominated by intense aromas of ripe stone fruit, tropical pineapple, and bright citrus zest. Its appearance is appropriately opaque with a luminous golden glow and a persistent, meringue-like head. On the palate, the hop-forward character delivers layers of peach, mango, and passion fruit, supported by a soft, pillowy mouthfeel and a subtle, bready malt backbone. The finish is smooth and low in bitterness, emphasizing fruit saturation over hop bite.
Appearance. Color is deep gold (approx. 6 SRM) with a thick, opaque haze and a luminous shine. Topped by a dense, rocky, white head with excellent retention and significant lacing.
Aroma. High intensity hop aroma featuring prominent notes of peach and nectarine from Nectaron, complemented by Citra's grapefruit and lime, and El Dorado's tropical candy character. Very low, grainy-sweet malt in the background; clean fermentation profile with light fruity esters.
Taste. High fruity hop flavor follows the aroma with dominant mango, pineapple, and citrus. Malt flavor is low and lightly bready. Bitterness is low to medium-low, providing just enough balance without being sharp. The finish is off-dry and exceptionally smooth, with a lingering tropical fruit aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium-full body with a soft, silky texture and no astringency. Carbonation is moderate. A light, well-integrated alcohol warmth is present at 6.9% ABV, contributing to a rounded mouthfeel.
