La Source Primitive 042 is a refreshing American Lager that elevates a classic clean profile with a modern dry-hop punch. The base is exceptionally crisp and well-attenuated, providing a neutral canvas for the vibrant interplay of Citra and Simcoe hops. Expect a bright burst of citrus zest and tropical fruit on the nose, transitioning into subtle piney undertones from the Cryo Simcoe. This lager remains light-bodied and highly carbonated, delivering a thirst-quenching experience where the delicate grainy malt sweetness is perfectly balanced by a moderate, hop-forward finish that lingers just long enough to invite another sip.
Appearance. Very pale straw (2-3 SRM). Brilliant clarity with a moderate, white, frothy head that displays fair retention for the style.
Aroma. Moderate to high intensity. Clean, neutral malt provides a backdrop for prominent hop aromas of grapefruit and lime from the Citra, alongside resinous pine and passion fruit from the Simcoe and Cryo Simcoe. Very low grainy-sweet malt; fermentation profile is exceptionally clean.
Taste. Initial impression is crisp and dry. Low grainy malt flavor is quickly overtaken by a moderate hop presence featuring lemon peel and earthy pine. Bitterness is low to medium-low, providing a balanced, even finish. Aftertaste is clean and short with a lingering citrus zest.
Mouthfeel. Light body with very high carbonation, resulting in a prickly carbonic bite. No alcohol warmth; very refreshing with a smooth, non-astringent finish.
