La Source Beer Co. Silure is an intense Double IPA that showcases a massive, modern hop profile driven by double dry-hopping. A striking bouquet of tropical passion fruit and bright grapefruit from Cryo Citra and Mosaic blends seamlessly with the unique red berry and ripe strawberry notes of Barbe Rouge. Underneath, Centennial hops contribute a classic piney and floral backbone. Despite its formidable strength, the clean, lean malt profile allows the vibrant hop oils to dominate. It finishes remarkably dry and dangerously drinkable, with a smooth, well-integrated warmth that underscores its potent character.
Appearance. Deep gold to light orange-copper (7-9 SRM) with a slight, hop-induced haze. Crowning the pour is a moderate-sized, persistent, off-white head that leaves sticky, dense lacing down the glass.
Aroma. High intensity hop-forward aroma featuring a complex blend of tropical mango, passion fruit, and bright citrus zest, accompanied by distinct red berry and strawberry notes. A subtle undertone of resinous pine and floral character supports the fruit. Malt is very low and neutral-grainy, with a smooth, clean alcohol presence in the background.
Taste. An initial explosion of rich tropical fruit, grapefruit, and red currant hop flavors. Malt flavor is low and neutral, providing a clean, unobtrusive canvas. The hop bitterness is high but remarkably smooth, never becoming harsh. Finishes dry to medium-dry with a long, clean, lingering bitterness and fruit-forward hop aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium body with a smooth, velvety texture. Carbonation is moderate-high. A distinct, clean alcohol warmth is present but remains well-integrated and smooth, without any harsh, hop-derived astringency.
