Imperial Stout 14 º
This Imperial Stout presents a massive sensory profile, driven by a 14% ABV and extended aging in Bowmore whisky barrels. The experience begins with intense aromas of bittersweet chocolate and espresso, immediately layered with the signature Islay character of peaty smoke, sea salt, and charred oak. The palate is dense and chewy, offering deep notes of black licorice, dried figs, and roasted grain. The Bowmore influence provides a medicinal complexity and a touch of vanilla sweetness that cuts through the robust bitterness. It finishes with a long, velvety warmth and a lingering, smoky richness that defines this decadent, high-gravity ale.
Appearance. SRM 40+; jet black and completely opaque. A persistent, deep tan head provides moderate lacing, while high viscosity is evidenced by prominent legs on the glass.
Aroma. High intensity and complex; prominent roasted coffee and dark chocolate mingle with aggressive peat smoke, iodine, and vanilla from the whisky barrels. Moderate esters of prune and black currant are present, balanced by a clean, warming alcohol presence and low earthy hops.
Taste. Rich, bittersweet initial impression featuring burnt grain and cocoa. The mid-palate introduces complex layers of earthy peat, toffee, and dark fruit like raisins. Bitterness is firm but well-supported by a thick malt backbone. The finish is long and warming, showcasing roasted malt, dark chocolate, and lingering whisky smoke.
Mouthfeel. Full-bodied and luscious with a thick, velvety, and chewy texture. Carbonation is low, enhancing the creamy mouthfeel. A significant, smooth alcohol warmth is present throughout without being solventy.
