Grive is a lean, highly sessionable Belgian Blond Ale that leans into its identity as a Belgian Bitter. Driven by characterful Belgian malt, the profile is anchored by the unique presence of Belgian Comet hops, which contribute a wild, earthy, and citrusy grapefruit edge. The house yeast provides a subtle backdrop of spicy phenols and lemon-like esters, typical of the style. Despite its lower alcohol content compared to stronger examples, it maintains a structured bitterness that cuts through the crackery malt base, resulting in a crisp, exceedingly drinkable ale with a clean, dry finish.
Appearance. Deep gold (approx. 5 SRM) with brilliant clarity. It supports a large, dense, and creamy white head that exhibits excellent retention and characteristic Belgian lacing.
Aroma. Moderate intensity featuring grainy-sweet and crackery Belgian malt. The yeast-derived profile offers light orange and peppery notes, while the Belgian Comet hops add a distinct earthy, citrusy, and slightly herbal punch.
Taste. Initial impression of grainy-sweet malt quickly yields to a firm hop bitterness. Flavors of grapefruit zest and earthy spice from the Comet hops are prominent, balanced by subtle spicy yeast phenols and lemon esters. It finishes very dry and crisp with a lingering, refreshing bitterness and clean malt aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium-light body with high carbonation that creates a prickly, refreshing, and mouth-filling effervescence. It is smooth and exceptionally clean, with no perceptible alcohol warmth.
