This massive Imperial Stout presents a decadent sensory experience forged through eighteen months of maturation in premium bourbon barrels. At a formidable 15% ABV, it exudes an intense aromatic profile dominated by bittersweet dark chocolate and rich vanilla. The extended wood aging imparts deep layers of toasted marshmallow and caramelized brown sugar, which are seamlessly integrated with a persistent, spirituous bourbon warmth. Viscous and opaque, the liquid delivers a complex palate where charred grain meets silky sweetness, concluding with a long, warming finish. It is a harmonious marriage of wood, spirit, and roasted malt, prioritizing luxury and depth over simple bitterness.
Appearance. Jet black and completely opaque (40+ SRM). It pours with a thick, deep tan head that shows moderate retention. Visible viscosity is evident through heavy legs clinging to the glass.
Aroma. High intensity. Leading with rich dark chocolate and prominent bourbon-soaked oak. Distinctive notes of vanilla and toasted marshmallow are layered over caramelized brown sugar. Subtle background esters of dried figs and prunes emerge as it warms, with no perceptible hop aroma.
Taste. Initial impression is immensely rich and velvety. Intense flavors of bittersweet cocoa and espresso roast are immediately softened by vanilla and burnt sugar sweetness. The bourbon character is bold, providing a spicy warmth that balances the heavy malt profile. Bitterness is moderate to high but largely masked by the massive residual extract. The finish is lingering and sweet with a decadent aftertaste of chocolate-covered raisins.
Mouthfeel. Full to very full-bodied with a chewy, luscious, and velvety texture. Carbonation is low to moderate, enhancing the beer's weight. A strong but smooth alcohol warmth is pervasive, reflecting its 15% ABV without being sharp or solventy.
